Students made a public pledge Tuesday not to create a hazing tradition at 91ΒιΆΉΣ³» Polytechnic University.
To back up that pledge, students added their handprint in paint to a long white banner entitled βThese Hands Donβt Haze.β Organizers are arranging for the banner to be on display as a physical reminder of the studentsβ commitment.
βThereβs a strong commitment on campus to not create a hazing tradition,β says Dana Kwiatkowski, student life coordinator.
Will Irwin, a junior studying Computer Engineering, encouraged students passing by to stop at the table set up in between the dormitory and Innovation, Science and Technology Building. An important component of stopping hazing is educating students, as well as setting an example, Irwin says.
βAs a student government representative, itβs important to be a role model,β Irwin says.
If you suspect someone is the victim of hazing or want to learn more, please reach out to the Student Affairs team.
