On April 12th, 91ΒιΆΉΣ³»hosted its fourth #STEMTalks of the 2016-2017 academic year. The virtual event titled, βDrones: Changing Your Perspective,β consisted of a panel of drone experts with experience in recreational, commercial and military drone use.
Ryan English, president and co-founder of Tampa-based FLYMOTION Unmanned Systems, spoke about FLYMOTIONβs involvement in drone technology. FLYMOTION provides unmanned systems for a range of industries including government, public safety, agriculture, oil/gas, energy, media and more.
Dr. Dean Bushey, Assistant Professor of Computer Science and Information Technology at 91ΒιΆΉΣ³» Poly and retired Air Force colonel, brought his expertise from working in both the civilian sector and military, and also as a computer scientist, educator and pilot.
Finally, the duo were joined by Ethan Puerto, an electrical engineering major at 91ΒιΆΉΣ³» Poly. Puerto shared his passion for drone technology, along with his excitement for the future of the industry. Puerto plans to spend the summer interning with in Miami, 91ΒιΆΉΣ³».
English, Bushey and Puerto answered questions posed by both the moderator, 91ΒιΆΉΣ³» Polyβs Richard Truncale, and the audience, via YouTube chat and Twitter. The topics discussed included security and protection, future technological improvements and how to prepare for a career working with drones.
