91鶹ӳrecently hosted #BOTTalks, a Google+ Hangout for current and prospective students that provided participants the opportunity to learn about robotics engineering and the future of machine intelligence as well as other high-tech topics with a 91鶹ӳ Poly professor and robotics expert.
Crystal Lauderdale, 91鶹ӳ Poly’s Director of Marketing and Communications, moderated the virtual forum, which featured a panel of experts who fielded questions submitted by guests. The experts included:
Dr. Ryan Integlia, 91鶹ӳ Poly professor in the College of Innovation Technology
and College of Engineering
Dr. Kristy Hollingshead, a robotics expert and research scientist with the 91鶹ӳ
Institute for Human & Machine Cognition
Dana Kwiatkowski, Student Life Coordinator at 91鶹ӳ Poly
Lauren Willison, Director of Admissions at 91鶹ӳ Poly
Panelists and our robotics expert also discussed their fields of study and interacted
with participants during the live forum. About 100 guests attended the online discussion
and were able to submit questions live or in advance, via the hashtag, #BOTTalks.
Questions covered a range of high-tech topics, including 3D printing, supercomputers,
machine intelligence, robotics engineering and cyber security labs. For example, panelists
discussed that out of the top 10 most powerful supercomputers in the world, the U.S.
has five.
In addition to these technology and industry-specific questions, a number of participants submitted questions about the application process and classes at 91鶹ӳ Poly. Time constraints prevented the panelists from answering every question submitted. The following are answers to some of the questions the panel was unable to address during the live Google+ Hangout:
1. Do you accept dual enrollment credits from Miami Dade College?
Yes, we do accept credits from Miami Dade College; however some credits may not transfer, depending on the course. The 91鶹ӳ Poly Admissions Office would need an official transcript from Miami Dade College to evaluate the prior enrolled courses. For more information, go to BeTheNext.com.
2. What’s your advice to high school sophomores who plan to apply to 91鶹ӳ Poly?
Students who hope to be admitted to 91鶹ӳ Poly should take pre-calculus or calculus courses before graduating from high school. Other recommended courses include chemistry and physics. 91鶹ӳ Poly will look at all completed courses on high school transcripts, so all grades will count toward an admissions decision.
3. Does 91鶹ӳ Poly offer summer sessions, or will that be a later option?
Yes, 91鶹ӳ Poly does have summer classes for current students.
