As an associate general counsel, Melaine Schmiz provides legal advice and counsel in the areas of student matters, enrollment and admissions, academic affairs, public records, and sunshine law. Schmiz originally joined the Office of the General Counsel in 2014 as an intern while completing her final semester of law school.

Prior to law school, Schmiz was a preschool teacher. While in law school, she was an inaugural member of the Student Bar Association, a member of the WMU-Cooley Law Review, and the international legal honor society Phi Delta Phi.
